About Becky

TEACHING

Becky has educated and inspired students to write for over 20 years. She encourages creativity and collaboration through active learning methods that ask her students to move, talk, and — most importantly — laugh. She believes innovation develops best not in isolation, but in warm, supportive communities that allow for deep discovery.

BACKGROUND

Becky received both her B.A. and Ph.D. in English, specializing in 20th century American and British literature, with an emphasis on Asian American Pacific Islander literature, at UC Berkeley. She spent 6 years teaching academic writing in Shanghai at the University of Michigan–Shanghai Jiaotong University Joint Institute. Currently, she is a Continuing Lecturer in UC Berkeley’s College Writing Programs, where she teaches courses in academic writing and public speaking.

BEYOND ACADEMIA

Becky continually finds inspiration through writing poetry and fiction. She has also been dancing for 20+ years, with a specialization in modern and contemporary styles.
